Livadna kadulja, mix makova, mix ivančica, različak, stolisnik, mačja metvica, zlatica, kozmos, lucerna, crvena i bijela djetelina, divlji luk, maslačak, neven, nekoliko vrsta rudbekija i još krasnih cvjetnih trajnica, no nismo uspjeli zapamtiti sva njihova imena. Dodatno smo oko voćaka zasadili lukovice češnjaka i luka. Što li je održiv sustav bez bio raznolikosti i dobrog starog češnjaka?
We conducted ecological teambuilding activities in our new public orchard in Split at the location of the Turkish Tower.
The Henkel group, that is, their hundreds of representatives from different parts of the world, thanks to the Intours Dmc agency that brought us together, realized the revitalization of the public devastated area of the former waste disposal site in Split.
We planted vegetation of the lower layer as supporting plants for fruit trees, and mulched the entire surface of the newly created orchard. In the end, we soaked it well with a water tank, made a box of seed balls with meadow flower seeds, which will sprout and attract the world of bio diversity, and at the same time help the local apiary at the location.
What was the content of the seed balls?
Meadow sage, mix poppies, mix yarrow, cornflower, yarrow, catnip, goldenrod, cosmos, alfalfa, red and white clover, wild onion, dandelion, marigold, several types of rudbeckia and other beautiful flowering perennials, but we didn’t manage to remember all their names . Additionally, we planted garlic and onion bulbs around the fruit trees. What is a sustainable system without bio diversity and good old garlic?
The public fire department of the City of Split greatly facilitated watering with a water tank, while Botanički Vrh, as always, prepared quality and healthy seedlings. I thank them for their quick and efficient cooperation.
For fellow citizens of the Turkish Tower, we have prepared a local public compost for disposal of bio-waste, and we are already seeing its use in the first days. After the decomposition process, we will later use the compost from the site for the orchard, and we have relieved the municipal infrastructure at least a little of the bio waste from the surrounding households/buildings. We hope that citizens will recognize the potential!
In addition to the above from an environmental perspective, and viewed from a social perspective, with the Impact Trip agency we brought two international volunteers from the USA, Stephanie Capuzzo and Kristen Ziino, who recorded the entire activity. We hereby encourage volunteerism, the social involvement of young people in environmental and social activities, even if they are tourists. Given that the city of Split is a tourist city, and a lot has been written recently about pollution problems caused by tourists, we want to show models of good tourism practice, not only in Split but in the whole of Croatia. Ecologically aware! You can watch the video prepared by Steph and Kristen here.
You can view the photos in the “City Orchard Varaždin” card section, where we generally share all information about all public orchards and teambuildings.
